AWS Infrastructure

  • Category : AWS Categorized continents into Category and named them as Asia Pacific and China , Europe / Middle East / Africa, South America, North America
  • Region : It a Geographical Location under the aws category of continent when aws offers their services with Data Centers are mentioned as Availability Domains.
  • Availability Domain : It is a physical Data Center erected inside of Region of aws this is usually called as Availability domain. For high availability aws erected more than 1 AD (Availability Domain or Data Center) in the Region and they are interconnected but logically isolated with respect to user services level but they can connect with each other.

AWS Infrastructure information (Mid 2022) : The AWS Cloud spans 87 Availability Zones within 27 geographic regions around the world, with announced plans for 24 more Availability Zones and 8 more AWS Regions in Australia, Canada, India, Israel, New Zealand, Spain, Switzerland, and Thailand.

User End Infrastructure:

Flow of Data (Web Related if they use CloudFront) :

Original Data(From AD) → CloudFront Service → Regional Edge Cache Location → Edge Locations → Users/Viewers

Regional Edge Caches :
These are placed between your origin webserver and the global edge locations. Regional Edge Caches have larger cache-width than any individual edge location, so your objects remain in cache longer at these locations.

Edge Locations :

Aws has dozens of these data centers spread across Major cities of the world. They’re closer to users than Regions or Availability Zones, so response to the user from aws is fast than usual , services offered in Edge locations are

  • CloudFront :  Which uses edge locations to cache copies of the  static and dynamic web content, such as .html, .css, .js, and image files it serves, so the content is closer to users and can be delivered to them faster.
  • Route 53 :  which serves DNS responses from edge locations, so that DNS queries that originate nearby can resolve faster
  • Web Application Firewall and AWS Shield : which filter traffic in edge locations to stop unwanted traffic as soon as possible.
